The most performed opera in the United States, Madama Butterfly is one of opera’s most enduring tales of unrequited love. Audiences never seem to get tired of her, and opera companies would not survive without her. The entire opera is set from the point of view of the title character, Cio-Cio-Sian, who falls in love with American naval officer B.F. Pinkerton. Enduring both shame and sorrow, she decides to take destiny into her own hands…
